Learn How to Fix Runtime Errors That Occur in Vista

If you encounter runtime errors while working in Windows Vista it is because there is a problem with one of the applications that you are trying to use. There is obviously a glitch that you haven't noticed and you need to address it. The first thing to do is read the error message that you received. For example:

"Run-time error '429': ActiveX component can't create object"

Once you understand what the error message is telling you, then you can start working on a resolution. In the above example you can see that you are experiencing error 429. This particular error usually occurs when you are working in Microsoft Office XP and attempting to make an action automatic.

You will experience a runtime error if:

  • The files used for installation are damaged
  • A program was installed incorrectly
  • Some important registry data is lost or damaged
  • Your computer has damaged template objects, such as "Excel.xlb" and "Normal.dot."

Whatever the error, the first step towards resolution is the same. You will need to re-register whichever program is generating the error. This usually involves opening the "command prompt" and then finding the .exe file. For example, if Microsoft Word is where the problem is originating then you will need to go to the command prompt, find the file "word.exe", run "word.exe\regserver" and then hit "Enter."

If the error originates with a template then you can simply delete and then create a new template. You can also employ a reliable Windows Database cleaner and PC optimization tool, which will automatically debug your whole system.

Another runtime example is:

"Run-time Error '339' component 'MCI32.OCX' or one of its dependencies is not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

If you recently upgraded your operating system from Windows XP to Windows Vista then you might experience a runtime error similar to the above message. This will usually contain the file name MC132.OCX. You can resolve this error by uninstalling the application that caused the error in the first place and then reinstalling it. Of course, you have to be certain that you uninstalled the application correctly. To be sure that you completed the process it would be a good idea to launch your Windows Database cleaning software.
