Learn How to Fix Windows Database Errors
Most people don't know that their Windows Database is one of the most important components of their computer. The database is like a storage facility where all of your computer's information is kept. This includes every application that you have installed or uninstalled. Whenever you want to run an application, the information necessary to do so is found in the Windows Database. If any of the files or data are corrupt, fragmented or otherwise damaged then your computer will have a hard time running programs effectively and it will also cause errors. You have to address these problems, as this database's health is indicative of the overall health of your computer.
Before you attempt to clean up your Windows Database you should probably save all your files so that if any information is lost in the cleaning process you can still retrieve it. You can download and install a quality third-party cleaning and PC optimization tool that includes backup and restore features.
How to Back Up Your Files
If you choose to back your files up yourself here's how:
- Open the "Start" menu and select "Run"
- A text box will appear. Type REGEDIT into the box and hit "Enter"
- The editor will launch. Select the "File" menu and then select "Export"
- When the dialogue box appears, enter the name of the backup file that you want to save
Of course, if there are problems with your Windows Database then you are also backing up those problems. However, a back up file is just that – a back up. If you properly clean your database then you won't need the back up files and you can get rid of them and the problems that were saved with them.
If you don't know what you're doing it is strongly recommended that you utilize the "Guided Help" tool. Just like it says, this will guide you through the cleaning process. This will decrease your chances of making the problem worse.
Follow these instructions to download and install the Guided Help utility:
- Open up an Internet browser
- Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
