The Windows Installer Error and How to Fix It
In order to effectively resolve the Windows Installer error, you must first understand what the root of the problem is. Only then will you be able to fix the problem. Of course, this is often easier said than done.
Windows Installer errors usually occur within the Windows Database. This huge database keeps track of such data as installed hardware and software, user profiles and settings. You can manually repair the problem by registering with the Msiexec.exe. To do this you must access the Editor:
- Select the "Start" menu and then hit "Run."
- A text box will appear. Type regedit into the box. The Editor will open.
- Navigate down until you see:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesMSIServer - Double click the "Imagepath" and verify the "Value Data". Modify the value that appears in the field and then hit "Ok" to confirm these modifications.
- Type "Exit" into the text box and then close the window.
- Shutdown your computer and restart it in "safe mode". You can do this by hitting "F8" rapidly as the system starts up.
- Select the "Start" menu and then select "Run".
- A text box will appear. Type C:WindowsSyswow64Msiexec /regserver and then hit "OK."
- Restart your computer.
The Windows Database consists of a large amount of data. It houses all the information that is needed to run many of your computer's most fundamental applications. If any of this data or any of these files are missing, fragmented or corrupted, the computer will have a very hard time finding them and will not be able to perform a number of tasks. Each piece of data within the registry is also used to conduct a number of different tasks. So even if you have uninstalled an application, there maybe be lingering bits of data that are fragmented. The computer might need this data to run applications, or it might hamper its ability to run others. The point is, if you try to manually resolve each error it will take an enormous amount of time, as you will have to sift through a lot of information.
That being said, you have to resolve the issues before they start to affect other applications. So many things on your computer are connected that if you leave one aspect malfunctioning for too long it will start to corrupt other applications.
After you complete the above instructions you should no longer experience the Windows Installer error. If you're uncomfortable completing the above steps on your own, you should download and install a reliable Windows cleaning and optimization product. You can easily find one online and it will scan your registry files for you. It will then automatically repair any missing or corrupted files.
