Fixing Windows Startup Problems

If you're experiencing errors when you attempt to startup your Windows operating system then you could be facing a bigger problem that you need to address right away. You can resolve this problem easily by doing it yourself or hiring an expert. Either way, the error needs to be addressed in order for your computer to function properly.

Errors When Restarting Your Computer:

When you restart your computer and you run up against an error message you will need to follow the directions below:

Step One: Re-set Windows so that the file that is included in the error message ceases to load.

Sometimes the error message will include a file or a service. This file or service might be located in the "System Configuration Utility" or "Msconfig.exe." If it is, you need to turn it off by completing the steps below. If the service of file is not included in the error message, proceed to the instructions at the bottom.

Step Two: Confirm installation of a new application. If you have recently tried to uninstall an application from your computer chances are there is still evidence of that application on your hard drive. You need to completely uninstall the item. To do this, you should follow these steps:

  1. Select the Start menu and then open up the Control Panel. Select "Add/Remove Programs."
  2. Select the applications that you would like to uninstall from the list provided. When you are finished, hit "Change/Remove."
  3. You will be asked to confirm your selection. Hit "Yes."
  4. If you don't see the application in the list provided, contact the application's developer to find out how you should proceed.

"Not Responding Errors" when starting Windows XP:

Have you ever tried to start your computer and you encounter the "not responding error?" Your computer isn't much good to you if it doesn't startup so you need to fix this problem. First, restart your system in safe mode. Once the computer starts up, you should utilize the "Device Manager" to identify the problem. It's possible that the issue is with a driver. If that's the case, you will have to employ the "System Restore Utility" to fix the problem.

To restart your computer in "Safe Mode" complete the following steps:

  1. Turn your computer on.
  2. When it begins to load, press F8 continuously. The computer will now be in safe mode.
  3. Now attempt to start an application or try and open a web browser.

There are two final alternatives. Try using the "Device Manager" to modify devices or utilize the "System Restore Utility" to ensure that your system returns to its original working state.
