Learn How to Increase The Speed of Your Internet Connection
More and more, we are becoming dependent on the Internet for information and to get our work done. Few things are as frustrating as watching the hourglass on your computer spin, especially if you're in a hurry. Fortunately, there are fast and easy ways to increase the connection speed of your Internet. Below are some steps that you can complete to speed up your Internet.
- Log in under the administrator's account
- Select the Start menu and then choose "Run"
- A text box will appear. Type gpedit.msc into the box
- Expand "Local Computer Policy," then expand "Administrative Templates" and finally, expand "Network"
- Locate "OoS Packet Scheduler." Highlight this. On a side note, this manages the network bandwidth and examines data packages. If the package is important, it will prioritize it as such.
- Open "Limit Reservable Bandwidth" by double-clicking on it.
- In the "Settings" tab, select the box "ENABLED"
- Locate "Bandwidth limit %" and change the value to 0.
- Hit "Apply" and close the window.
- Reboot your computer and your Internet connection should be faster.
Don't forget to check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to find out what kind of Internet service you ordered. Make sure that you're actually receiving the service that you are paying for. Many people keep paying a high Internet fee but don't actually receive that level of service. You can also run an online test of your Internet speed through various websites. Remember to test it a few different times and on a few different sites because you Internet speed will vary slightly.
Another way to speed up your connection is to turn off your "web browser add-ons". Follow these steps to turn them off:
- Go to the Start menu and select "Tools."
- Choose "Manage Add-ons" and disable any web browser add-ons that you deem unnecessary.
Another important step is to launch your anti-virus and anti-spyware software to do a scan of your computer. You may not know that you have a virus. It could be silently wreaking havoc to your computer, manifesting as a slow Internet connection amongst other things.
Don't forget that launching the "Disk Defragmenter" and "Disk Cleanup" through "System Tools" is also a very good option in order to achieve a faster Internet connection and a faster computer in general.
