Learn How to Increase the Speed of Your Program Downloads
When you try to download applications and programs from the Internet, you expect it to happen quickly. If your Internet connection is slow or if your computer is bogged down then it will probably take a very long time for the program to download. This can be very frustrating. No one wants to waste time in front of their computer waiting.
There may be several reasons that your downloading is very slow but whatever they are it is often easy to fix them. There are the basic problem-solving features that are included on your computer. These can help you enormously regardless of whether you're using a modem, DSL or satellite Internet connection. Before you do anything else, you should try to solve the problem with the tools included on your operating system. They are there for good reasons – they are safe and they work.
For effective troubleshooting solutions, try the following:
Option 1:
- Select the Start menu and then click on "My Computer."
- Click on "Manage" and then open "Device Manager."
- Press "Network adapters" and then choose the "network adapter" that you are presently using.
- Next, click on "Properties" and then select the "Driver" tab. Hit "Update Driver."
Just a few quick steps and your Internet connection speed will increase. If you already have the latest version of your driver but your Internet is still slow then you may want to select "Roll Back Driver" to revert to what previously worked.
Option 2:
There are programs available online that help you download software faster. Basically they use your Internet connection more efficiently.
Option 3:
Sometimes it's as simple as closing some of the programs that are running on your computer. If you're trying to do too much at once, your computer will become overloaded and will start slowing down. Sometimes you won't even know that you have programs open. There are several applications that start automatically when you boot up your computer. They run in the background and you might not know they're there but they're using valuable resources. The best solution is to shut down any background programs and then restart your computer.
Option 4:
One of the smartest things you can do for your computer's overall health, as well as your Internet connections speed, is download and install anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Viruses and spyware make their way onto your computer undetected. They find a good hiding place, usually in your operating system, and from there they attack your computer and steal your information. They can also take over your Internet connection and slow your connection speed down. You can utilize scanning programs online but the best and most effective solution is to purchase anti-virus software and use it regularly.
Option 5:
The final option is to deactivate your Internet "Add-ons." To do so, follow these steps:
- Open up the Start menu, click on "Accessories," then "All Programs" and then open "Internet Explorer and System Tools."
- However, if this fails to resolve the problem then follow these instructions:
- Select "Tools" and then "Internet Options."
- Select the "Advanced" tab and then press "reset" twice.
- If your Internet connection speed has not increased then select "Tools" in Internet Explorer 7 and select "Windows Update." This will update your browser.
