What Is Runtime Error 217 and How to Fix It

A runtime error typically occurs when you are trying to run a program in Windows. These errors can range from harmless to annoying to dangerous. If you're playing video games, a runtime error might be frustrating but ultimately inoffensive. If you're conducting business online, and especially if money is changing hands, then a runtime error can cause significant damage. Regardless, these errors should be dealt with for the sake of your computer's health.

A Runtime Error 217 can occur for many reasons. These include, but are by no means limited to, damaged or fragmented files or files that are located in the wrong place. How do files become damaged or misallocated? Often this occurs when programs are installed poorly, uninstalled improperly and when files are installed within the .exe. These problems can usually be resolved quite easily. All you have to do is completely uninstall and then reinstall the program. When uninstalling, make sure you eliminate all traces of the program. Then when you reinstall, follow the instructions exactly.

Of course, many computer errors come down to one basic problem: viruses. Viruses weasel their way into your computer and wreak havoc in your operating system if undetected. They will insert corrupting strings of code in your files, causing your computer to malfunction. Viruses commonly attack fundamental aspects of your computer, thus inflicting the most damage. Your computer's memory and Windows Database are often affected and if you don't have any anti-virus software you won't even know it's there. If you have anti-virus or anti-spyware software, however, you can usually catch them and eliminate them, as they almost always leave a trail. In fact, you should have anti-virus software and it should be turned on all the time. This way it will constantly scan your computer and let you know when it finds anything suspicious.

Most people don't know that their Windows Database is one of the most important parts of their computer. It houses all your computer's data that it needs to run programs and applications. If any of the files associated with these programs are corrupt or misallocated then your computer is going to start malfunctioning. Often it is the major cause of Runtime Error 217.

Your Windows Database is affected when you don't install a program properly. Information gets lost or located in the wrong place. When you ask the computer to run that program, it has to scan all the bits of information on your computer to find the appropriate information. If the information is fragmented or incorrect, this will cause errors. Similarly, if your computer has a virus that has entered malicious information into the database, this will negatively affect your system's ability to run applications.

Luckily you can easily fix your Windows Database. It's like cleaning house. You need to hire a good maid (i.e., a Windows clean up tool) and completely reorganize. All fragmented files need to be united and corrupt files need to be eliminated. In fact, if you employ a Windows clean up and optimization tool on a regular basis, chances are you won't need to clean up such a mess in the first place.
