Learn How to Speed Up Mozilla Firefox
Mozilla Firefox is one of the most popular web browsers out there for a reason. Its speed and security give it an edge above its competitors and are two of its best features. Firefox comes with an automatic pop-up blocking function that increases its security performance. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular web browsers on the market.
That being said, it's not without its problems either. As with all web browsers, it can get bogged down and start operating slowly. Why? It usually has something to do with your Internet and computer settings and these are easy problems to fix.
Solution 1:
In order to amp up your web browser's operating speed, make sure that you're using the most basic extensions, homepage and theme.
Solution 2:
An "optimized build" helps your Internet to run faster and it uses les memory. If you're using Firefox try a 3.5.3 optimized build.
Solution 3:
Try adjusting the "content type handling":
- Press the "Options" menu and then open "Applications" in order to modify the content types.
- Adjust files like .rar, .zip and PDF files by selecting "Save File."
- Modify "mailto" so that it uses your email program (i.e., Yahoo or Google but NOT AOL).
- Modify your "Web Feed." Change it to the preferred RSS from "Preview in Firefox."
- When you can, open single files as opposed to multiple files in your web browser.
Solution 4:
You can improve your downloads by changing the configurations. Go to the "Options" menu and then click on "Main." Select a folder that all of your downloads will be saved to. Make sure that the option to exit the download window immediately after downloads are complete is enabled.
Next, open the "Options" menu again and select "Privacy." Click on "Custom Settings for History" and make sure this is deactivated.
Solution 5:
Reconfigure your "General Advanced Options." Open the "Options" menu and select "Advanced." Next, click on "General" and then select "Accessibility." Choose "Search for text when I start typing." Deactivate "use smooth scrolling." Deactivate "Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup." In its place, reconfigure it so that Firefox is the default web browser through the "Program Access and Defaults." If you feel that you don't really need spell check to be enabled, you can disable that as well.
Solution 6:
You can also improve the capacity of your Internet cache. Open the "Options" menu and then select "Advanced." Click on "Network" and increase your cache by going to "Options," then "Advanced," and "Network." Enlarge the dimension of the disk cache or "Offline Storage." You should increase it to at least 150 MB.
Restrict the capacity of your Internet history by opening the "Options" menu and then selecting "Privacy." In "Custom settings for History" you can make the saved history smaller.
Solution 7:
You can limit the amount of number engines by removing the unused ones. In the search box click on the drop down menu and choose "Managing Search Engines."
Solution 8:
Reorganize your bookmarks and disable "Live Bookmarks" and "Live Bookmark Latest Headlines" (use an RSS feed instead).
Solution 9:
You can enhance Firefox's capabilities by utilizing certain extensions, such as "Tweak Netwok 1.3" and "FasterFox 3.8.1 Lite." The former allows you to employ power or default profiles to adjust settings. The latter offers a "custom browser profile."
