How to Speed Up Your PC

Is your computer slow and sluggish? Do you get frustrated when it doesn't open programs quickly enough? Is your Internet creeping along? Does it take forever to download files? A slow computer can be a terribly frustrating thing. With a little information, however, you can figure our why your computer is slow and then you can fix it.

It seems like you buy a new computer and then just a few months later its speed is already decreasing. Computers are too expensive to start breaking down so quickly! Most of the time, it's just the amount of information you have on your computer.

We demand a lot of our computers these days. They have to store movies, music, photos and other large files. The more information you put on your computer, the more work it has to do. You might not notice this as you put one program after another on your operating system. But after a few months, and especially a year, you will definitely notice a difference. You'll probably think that your computer is just getting old but that's not the case. You likely just have too much stuff on there.

Another factor behind a slow computer is your Windows Database. This is like the central storage facility on your computer. All your pertinent information is stored here. It monitors all your activity and keeps track of every application that you install, or even uninstall. Over time, a lot of this information can become fragmented. When your computer goes to retrieve information, it has to wade through damaged files, missing files or even corrupt files.

And finally, if you don't have enough memory on your computer then it will definitely start to slow down. Your operating system just can't handle all the information and it has to think too hard to do anything. If your computer doesn't have enough memory to execute a certain function then it will start searching for resources elsewhere. It begins to deplete other resources and soon your computer becomes impossible to deal with.

At this point, you probably want to know what you can do to fix this problem. First and foremost, you can purchase more memory – RAM, Random Access Memory. This is the most straightforward solution. The only problem is it can be costly. The next step would be to delete any and all unwanted, unused or unnecessary programs and applications. Just open up your Control Panel (under the Stat menu) and select "Add/Remove Programs."

Another option is to download a Windows cleaning and PC optimization tool that will scan your computer for missing or damaged files and automatically repair them. You can find these online. It is important to look for software that includes backup and restore features so that you can clean with confidence.
