Increase the Speed of Your Windows 7 Operating System



In comparison with other Windows operating systems, such as Vista and XP, Windows 7 was created to run very quickly. It is the fastest operating system out there. That being said, many people are still unsatisfied with the level of efficiency. Most people these days want their computer to operate fast – lightning fast. What many people don't know, however, is that a few adjustments can increase you Windows operating speed significantly. Better yet, you can do this yourself!

If you follow the directions below, you will be able to speed up Windows 7. First you need to make sure that you have all of the necessities:

  • DVD – R/W drive
  • A system that supports the DX9 graphics with 128MB of memory
  • 16GB of accessible memory and 1GB of primary memory
  • 1GHz processor (either 32 or 64-bit)

If your system has all of these, you can take steps to speed up Windows 7.

Increase the Boot Speed:

  1. Select [Win] + R on your keyboard OR select the Start menu and then "Run."
  2. Enter msconfig into the text box and then press "Enter"
  3. Select the "Boot" tab.
  4. The "Time Out" box will pop up.
  5. You are most likely employing just one operating system. If so, set the value to 0. If you are using more than one operating system, set the value to 3 or greater.
  6. Next, select " Advanced Options."
  7. When the window opens, select the box beside "Number of Processors."
  8. In the drop down menu select the maximum number of processor cores. This value will be 2 or greater.
  9. Select "Ok."
  10. Now hit "Apply" and then "Ok."
  11. Finished.

De-activate the Aero Theme:

  1. Right-click on your Desktop.
  2. Select "Personalize."
  3. Select "Window Color."
  4. You will see a box beside "Enable Transparency" – uncheck it.
  5. Select "Open classic appearance properties for additional color options."
  6. When the window pops up, select the Standard or Basic theme.
